CULTURE
There is increasing enthusiasm for Positive Organizational Psychology and its potential for maximizing employee engagement and organizational thriving. Generously intended, the concepts often evolve into top-down strategies hoped to elicit bottom-up engagement.
It is alternatively possible to allow these same principles to directly empower those with lower authority and encourage positive contribution from this underutilized resource. However, because most organizations depend on conformity, many employees are afraid to initiate beyond the constraints of their position. Also, organizations may be unintentionally resistant to inspired but unauthorized efforts.
Positive deviance offers a construct that supports strategies that are outside the norm yet have positive research-based outcomes.

Jennifer Evans, M.Ed.
Director, Positive Deviance Lab
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
This session offers a unique understanding of how employee engagement efforts may prove to be ineffective and a fresh approach intended to encourage contributions that support the emergence of a positive culture.
“Jennifer Evans is a positive deviant who has implemented strategies and overcome resistance from higher level and more powerful players at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business to affect wide-scale positive change in the culture of Ross—especially staff culture.”
